A Letter From Our PresidentBy Dr. Fred Blonnigen, President of the VXIbus Consortium Dear VXIbus User, VXI has now been used nearly 35 years in many different applications. The standard is mature and very stable. No new extensions to the technical specifications are foreseen. VXI was and still is a very successful backbone of different applications, which has enabled system integrators to build a lot of different systems in many different markets. Many people think of VXI being used in the Aerospace Defense market alone, but this is not correct. Other applications range from Aerospace (rocket testing, for example) to test systems for the ISS, cryogenic test stands, wind tunnel application, structural test systems, the power generation market, the supervision of nuclear power stations, turbine monitoring and the testing and monitoring of gas-turbines, and medical equipment test stands. I literally do not have enough space in this article to mention all the different applications, where the VXIbus is used. Nearly 35 years of successful existence meant, that the specification was extended over time to allow for technological advances, yet backward combability was always observed. This in contrary to some newer standards where a change in the bus structure forced them to abandon the backward combability. We will continue to build and support VXIbus modules and systems. This includes everything from Slot-0 devices to mainframes and modules. But the VXIbus Consortium realizes that new systems are no longer being designed around VXI; therefore, this will be the last VXIbus newsletter. But as I said before, it is surely not the end of the VXIbus or the VXIbus consortium. We all know there is a lot of investment in the different systems installed, and we are committed to protect your investment. There are companies like Astronics, VTI or Bustec to name a few, who will help you to keep your system alive and running. Please do not hesitate to contact us either directly or through the consortium, if you have any questions regarding your systems. Regards Dr. Fred Blonnigen President of the VXIbus Consortium
